Oodgeroo Noonuccal, also known as Kath Walker, was an Aboriginal Australian political activist, poet, and artist. She was born on 3rd November 1920 on North Stradbroke Island, which is close to Macleay Island. Though not originally from Macleay Island, she spent several years living on and visiting the island during her life.

2. Shane Webcke

Shane Webcke is a retired professional rugby league footballer who represented both the Brisbane Broncos and the Australian national team. He was born on 28th May 1974 in nearby Redcliffe, Queensland, close to Macleay Island. Though not originally from the island, he might be considered as being associated with the area due to its proximity.
