Distinguished and Famous people from Macleay Island

🎨 Ted and Linda Upton, and Madi Ekeblad

Wood sculptor Ted Upton, silversmith Linda Upton and painter Madi Ekeblad helped organise Macleay Island’s Artists at Work event, opening a window onto the island’s unusually active creative community. Redland City Council’s account identifies them as local driving forces behind the Easter event. Their skills span very different materials, but the shared contribution was to make working artists visible to neighbours and visitors. Ted’s sculpture also appears in the island’s public-art story, with a prize-winning work installed as part of the Southern Islands Sculpture Trail. The association rests on residence, making and local organisation, bringing studios and public spaces into the same cultural life.
